🌟 English Corner Again

English Corner has always been one of my favorite extracurricular activities as a teacher. Honestly, many of my closest friends in China came from these English Corner meting sessions. Maybe it’s because the students who show up usually speak better English than average—or maybe it’s simply because they’re curious and motivated. Either way, there’s always a good reason why people come to English Corner.

This time, because of the cold weather, we held the session inside a classroom instead of outdoors. I quickly asked for a computer to be available (the computer at the classroom are usually locked if we did not ask for use) so I could prepare a special activity for the meeting.

🎯 My topic? Family bonds—and why family is so important. I based the discussion on resources from FamilySearch and the RootsTech event. To make it personal, I shared my own family tree and explained how students could start building theirs. The idea was simple but powerful: by preserving family records, they’re not just collecting names—they’re strengthening connections across generations.

The discussion turned out to be warm, touching, and surprisingly deep. Students shared their thoughts, asked questions, and reflected on their own families. It was one of those moments where learning English became more than just grammar and vocabulary—it became a way to talk about life, values, and memories.

The session was so meaningful that I recorded it. My hope is that more students—and really, anyone—can discover this beautiful idea of preserving family history while also strengthening family bonds.
